ComEd External Affairs Manager Carlo Cavallaro and Vice President Mike McMahon recently appeared before the Village of Wilmette board of trustees.
McMahon gave a presentation on the process of installation and benefits of smart meters. He explained to the board that Wilmette residents will receive letters with information on installation dates before ComEd installers or its contractors arrive to install the new meters. Most of the installations will be accomplished in March and April.
The board had a number of questions for McMahan, including changes on electric bills. McMahan explained that the electric rate will not change; however, if a resident does not have a smart meter installed, an additional fee of $21.53 will be added to the bill. This fee pays for a meter reader. Smart meters automatically transmit the electric usage to ComEd and do not require an employee to go out to read the meter.
Under public comment, the board recognized Beth Drucker, president of Go Green Wilmette, who announced the Go Green Wilmette annual fair. The fair is scheduled for March 13 at the Michigan Shores Club.
After dispensing with other village business, the board retired to an executive session. Upon its return, the meeting was adjourned.
