The Historic Preservation Commission heard updates on the 23rd annual Preservation Awards at its meeting last week.

The 2015 Preservation Awards were discussed at last week's Village of Wilmette Historic Preservation Commission meeting.

The awards focus on four areas of preservation: stewardship, restoration, sympathetic addition and streetscape compatibility. While the first three awards focus on historic buildings, interiors and gardens, the Streetscape Compatibility Award focuses on new construction that remains true to the historic appearance of its neighborhood. The nominations will be judged in October, the awards ceremony held in November.

The commission heard reports from the chair and staff, as well. Updates on local landmarks were submitted to the commission and discussed. At the last meeting, the Schager House, 1040 Chestnut Ave., was still for sale; however, it is now off the market. The commission was also updated on significant structures that were for sale or sold since the previous meeting.

The commission discussed training sessions for the commissioners. Old and new business were also discussed, in addition to upcoming preservation meetings. After calling for public comments, the meeting was adjourned.
