Jamie Abbott, director of the Chicago Executive Airport, gave a presentation on the proliferation of drones at the Dec. 21 meeting of the Wheeling board of trustees.
Drones should not be flown within five miles of an airport or above 400 feet. In addition, drones should not be used over emergency events, such as accidents or fires, nor over events where large numbers of people gather.
After hearing the presentation, the board opened the public hearing for the Cook County Class 6B property tax exemption for 1019 Noel Ave. The purchaser, VK 1019 Noel LLC, will purchase, rehabilitate and lease out the property. Public comment was requested; no one made any comments. The board then approved the classification for the property.
The public hearing for a Cook County Class 6B assessment for 520 Quail Hollow Dr. was also held. The applicant plans to rehabilitate and lease the property to American Protective Technologies. No comments were made by the public. After the hearing was closed, the board voted to approve the Class 6B classification.
The board also held a public hearing regarding the 2015 Village property tax levy. No one from the public commented and the hearing was closed. Following the hearing, several ordinances regarding the levy and tax abatements were passed.
In addition to the public hearings, the board also approved the 2016 village budget, creating a Class J liquor license to allow alcoholic beverages at funeral establishments, agreements regarding the Dundee Road-Community Blvd. project and several public works contracts.
The board then retired to an executive session. Upon its return, the meeting was adjourned.
