A public hearing on the 2015 property tax levy was held during a recent Des Plaines, Illinois City Council meeting.
Before the public hearing and the regular meeting of the council, the council adjourned to an Executive Session to discuss property matters, pending litigation and collective bargaining. Upon returning from the Executive Session, State Rep. David Harris (R-Arlington Heights) updated the council on the state budget impasse.
The public hearing regarding the proposed 2015 property tax levy was the held. The Assistant City Manager/Director of Finance, Dorothy Wisniewski, reviewed the levy. She took questions from the aldermen. No members of the public spoke at the hearing.
Following the public hearing, the council removed four items from the Consent Agenda, and then approved the remaining items in one vote. After new commissioners were appointed, the City Council meeting was declared a Committee of the Whole meeting. The committee discussed warrants, the 2015 property tax levy, the 2016 budget, community development and building code items.
When the city council meeting was back in session, the council approved payment of the city's bills, the 2015 property tax levy and the 2016 budget. The council also approved two final plats and amendments to city codes regarding construction regulations.
