U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) released a statement on November 16 regarding the terrorist attack in Paris.

“I am horrified by the events in Paris that have killed at least 129 people and injured more than 300. My heart goes out to the people of Paris in this terrible time," Schakowsky said. "All Americans can relate to their anguish, and, like all civilized people, are experiencing our own sense of vulnerability."

In her statement, Schakowsky spoke of standing together with other nations, including Britain, Germany, Italy and France, in a global effort to combat ISIS. She mentioned that President Obama has already met with these leaders and the foreign minister of France. Schakowsky also encouraged the U.S. government to make sensible gun control a top priority. She stressed the importance of reducing easy access to weapons that can be used in mass shootings and acts of terrorism.

Schakowsky also reminded Americans, "These attacks by ISIS are not representative of Islam or of the Muslim American community. It is crucial at this time that, we come together as a nation, across all religions and cultures to stand with the people of France in this difficult time."
