During October, the Buffalo Grove Police Department (BGPD) will collect pet supplies to benefit A Safe Place, a domestic violence shelter. The shelter has expanded its services to include a dedicated area for pets belonging to survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking who are transitioning to new housing.
The BGPD aims to gather essential items that will help ensure the comfort and care of these pets while their owners seek refuge. According to the department, "By providing these resources for pet owners, A Safe Place can ensure survivors need not worry about their pets while focusing on rebuilding their lives in a safe and supportive environment."
Accepted donations include cat litter, dog and cat food, toys, collars, leashes or harnesses, bedding, grooming supplies, potty pads, treats, and waste bags. All donated items must be new and unopened.
Donations can be dropped off at any time in the lobby of the Buffalo Grove Police Department at 46 Raupp Boulevard. For further information, individuals can contact the Social Services Division at 847-777-6210 or PDSocialServices@vbg.org.
