Gudrun “Gudy” Gaskill, born in Palatine, Illinois, on 1927, was an influential American mountaineer. She is known for her pivotal role in creating the Colorado Trail, a 567-mile path for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Starting in the 1970s, she planned the route, secured donations, and organized volunteer teams. In 1987, she was named the executive director of the Colorado Trail Foundation. Gaskill was inducted into the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame in 2002. She passed away on July 14, 2016, in Denver, Colorado, at the age of 89.
