On January 13, 2025, we at North Cook News sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Skokie School District 69. The request was aimed at obtaining data on the number of non-U.S. citizens, often referred to as "migrants" or "illegal aliens," currently enrolled in the school district.

As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe access to such public records is crucial for our work. This information allows us to hold public institutions accountable and ensure transparency for the public.

The request comes amidst growing discussions about education funding and resources in Illinois. According to the Illinois Report Card, the average state teacher salary in 2023 was $73,916, while the state average administrative salary stood at $116,908. The report also revealed that the average student-to-administrative ratio is 141:1, and the average student-to-teacher ratio is 17:1. Interestingly, it was found that 58% of teachers in Illinois have a master's degree or higher.

In light of these statistics, understanding the demographics of students served by our schools becomes even more critical. We are awaiting a response from Skokie School District 69 regarding our FOIA request and will continue to keep our readers informed about developments in this area.
