Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, representing Illinois' 8th district since 2017, recently addressed acts of hate and violence in a series of tweets. His statements come in the wake of an attack on a Palestinian man and his pregnant wife in Downers Grove, which he described as apparently hate-motivated. Krishnamoorthi emphasized the importance of not only rejecting such acts but also actively helping those targeted.

On November 19, 2024, Congressman Krishnamoorthi highlighted the need for proactive support for victims of hate-related incidents. He stated, "As we confront acts of hate, including violence, it’s not enough just to reject them, we must be ready to help those being targeted, whether a couple grabbing lunch, students demonstrating on their college campus, or a congregation at a synagogue."

Earlier that day, he noted another incident involving apparent hate-motivated violence. He reported via Twitter that "On Saturday in Downers Grove, our community witnessed another apparently hate-motivated attack, this time on a Palestinian man and his pregnant wife. This follows other recent hate-motivated incidents, including anti-Semitic attacks in Chicago."

In his concluding tweet posted on November 19th as well, Krishnamoorthi urged the public to take action when witnessing violence or vandalism. He advised individuals to contact authorities and provide assistance where needed: "So if you see violence or vandalism, call the police. If you see someone in need of medical attention, call 911. And if you see a community in need of more good neighbors, please be one. We can't just reject hate - we need to embrace taking care of our communities."
