FOIA Request Sent to City Of Prospect Heights Finance Department Regarding City Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City Of Prospect Heights Finance Department regarding city sales tax records on October 31, 2024. The request was made by North Cook News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

In the FOIA request, we sought specific records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, preferably in electronic format. Specifically, we asked for a list of businesses that paid sales tax to the city from January 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024. The requested details include the business name, business type, and the amount of sales tax paid by each entity.

Additionally, we requested information about the total amount of sales tax that the city collected during this same period. As a media organization committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities.

In our role as a news provider disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional. We look forward to cooperating with the City Of Prospect Heights Finance Department in obtaining this important data for our reporting efforts.
