Illinois State Senate District 25 candidate Heather Brown celebrated the U.S. Coast Guard's birthday with a Facebook post, stating that she was "sharing on behalf of a candidate I also ran with 2 years ago." She made the statement in an August 4 Facebook post.
"Happy Birthday to the USCG," said Brown, according to Facebook. "Sharing on behalf of a candidate I also ran with 2 years ago. Grassroots runner just like myself. Grassroots runner just like myself. We don't give up on the thousands that voted before. We will keep pushing for a better future and freedom for Illinois."
In her Facebook post, Brown shared a link to a Marter for Congress Facebook post by candidate Jim Marter, which celebrated the 234th birthday of the U.S. Coast Guard. Marter wrote, "Happy Birthday to the United States Coast Guard!! Today the United States Coast Guard turns 234 years old! Did you know that US Coast Guard conducts 22,000 search and rescue missions each year? The USCG is the only branch of the military that is under the US Department of Homeland Security."

According to the U.S. Coast Guard’s history overview website, it is under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and was established on August 4, 1790. On that day, the first Congress authorized construction of ten vessels to enforce tariff and trade laws and prevent smuggling. It is both a military force and federal law enforcement agency.
The State Senate District 25 is currently represented by State Senator Karina Villa (D-West Chicago). It includes all or parts of Aurora, North Aurora, Batavia, West Chicago, South Elgin, Wayne, and Bartlett.
Brown has been an Independent Alderman for the City of West Chicago for the past seven years. According to her campaign website, she has gained a reputation for her ability to bridge divides and work with individuals from both sides of the political spectrum. Her experience has honed her skills in navigating local governance complexities while remaining a vocal advocate for residents' concerns.
A distinctive aspect of Brown’s record is her principled stance on financial matters. She stands out as the only Alderman to consistently vote "No" on every levy proposed, showcasing a commitment to fiscal conservatism. This steadfast position aligns with her dedication to ensuring that taxpayers’ money is handled responsibly and transparently.
Furthermore, Brown has been the sole Alderman to vote against water rate increases, demonstrating her commitment to shielding residents from unnecessary financial burdens. In a time of economic challenges, she has been a vocal proponent of fiscal responsibility, insisting on prudent financial decisions that prioritize community well-being.
