Village of Northbrook Arts Commission met July 11

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Bondy at 6:22pm at the Northbrook  Public Library.

2. MINUTES APPROVAL  

A. Approve Minutes, June 6, 2024 Meeting 

Commissioner Siegel moved, seconded by Commissioner Shavitz to approve Minutes approval. On voice vote, the motion passed.

3. PUBLIC COMMENT TIME  

None. 

4. DISCUSSION TOPICS  

A. TotalLink2 Community Report  

Commissioner Weinstein was not present at this meeting.  

B. Finance Report 

Liaison Mkrdichian reported that the current balance is $14,346.62. This  does not reflect the Plein Air gift cards purchased yet.  

C. Continued Discussion on 2024 Plein Air Photography Event Chairman Bondy outlined this year's challenge format: one challenge in  the first week, two in the second week, and three in the third week. He also noted that Liaison Mkrdichian has launched Facebook ads to attract  more plein air submissions.  

D. Continued Discussion on Paint the Prairie Event  

Commissioner Siegel reported that we currently have 11 registrants. Efforts to distribute flyers and contact artists are ongoing. She circulated  a sign-up sheet for commissioners to volunteer for the event. The event  will feature outdoor activities on Sunday, including demonstrations,  music, and children's activities. Commissioner Loftus mentioned that the  budget is $4,000, which will be shared with the Park District, based on  an expected 15 registrants so far. The Commission will collaborate to reach out to more artists. Liaison Mkrdichian informed the Commission  that she found volunteer shirts in the attic and will provide an update on the quantities and sizes available. 

E. Name Badges | Funding Request 

Commissioner Siegel said the Commission used to have name badges,  but can no longer be found. The name badges would be helpful in identifying Commissioners and volunteers at upcoming events. She stated that they’re $10 each.  

Commissioner Yohe moved, seconded by Commissioner Shavitz to  approve $175 budget for name badges. On voice vote, the motion passed.

F. Drum Circle at Autumnfest 

Commissioner Loftus said she is trying to contact Rhythm Revolution  and is waiting to hear back regarding pricing and availability.  

G. Working Groups 

Chairman Bondy emphasized the need for working groups to handle  labor-intensive events. Commissioner Loftus proposed documenting all  the events so the commission could ensure everyone is involved to some  extent. Liaison Mkrdichian will create a planner and present it at the next meeting.  

H. Announcements & Discussions.  

Commissioner Block said we need more immediate contact with artists.  Liaison Mkrdichian will bring the artist mailing list she previously obtained and will be divided by Commissioners to update contacts.  

Commissioner Siegel said there is an exhibit through August 4th at  Kenosha Museum.  

Commissioner Halperin asked if Commissioners Siegel and Loftus  needed help passing out flyers for Plein Air Painting event.  

Commissioner Siegel gave him a few to pass out.  

5. ADJOURN  

Commissioner Loftus, seconded by Commissioner Yohe. On voice vote,  the motion passed, and the meeting adjourned at 7:00pm.
