Illinois State Rep. Mark Walker (D-Arlington Heights) said Monday that he would "welcome" a proposal to build a suburban camp housing illegal aliens at Arlington Park.

Walker made the comment to WGN-TV Channel 9, in response to news that the Chicago Bears were no longer pursuing construction of a stadium on the site.

“If they go forward with their lakefront plan, it’s our responsibility to make the best decision for Arlington Heights, Rolling Meadows and our neighboring communities as well," Walker said. "I look forward to many interesting proposals to come on the future of Arlington Park, like new business development, more affordable housing or welcoming centers for our new arrivals.”

In 2021, Walker voted for the Illinois “Trust Act,” (SB 667) which bars police in the state from referring illegal alien criminals to federal illegal immigration authorities, for deportation or incarceration.

Also in 2021, Walker voted for an amendment to the Illinois Human Rights Act (HB 2021) that allows illegal aliens to sue Illinois employers if they fail to hire them, or promote them, because they are illegal aliens.

The Chicago Bears announced changes to their plans for a new stadium, having previously purchased land in Arlington Park with intentions to build there. Now they are planning on providing $2 billion in funding to build a new domed stadium on a lakefront, in what is current a parking lot just south of current stadium Soldier Field, keeping the stadium within the city.

Mark Walker serves District 53 in the Illinois State House of Representatives. He assumed office in 2019, and was successfully reelected twice since then. He is running for reelection in the district and will be on the primary ballot in March. He is a Vietnam veteran and worked as a financial industry executive, entrepreneur, and management consultant before running for office.
