Village of Arlington Heights Committee-of-the-Whole met Aug. 7.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

President Hayes called the meeting to order at 7:03 PM.

BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: President Hayes; Trustees Baldino, Dunnington, Grasse, LaBedz, Shirley, Schwingbeck, and Tinaglia

BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT: Trustee Bertucci

STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT: Assistant Village Manager Diana Mikula 

OTHERS PRESENT: Ava McQuade, Christopher Lee Hong and Andrew Zatos

A. Interview of Ava McQuade for appointment to the Youth Commission (youth member), term ending 4-30-2024. 

Mayor Hayes introduced Ava McQuade and Christopher Lee Hong and asked them both to come forward together for their interviews. The Mayor stated that he met with both candidates and was so impressed by their many contributions and extensive resumes. The Mayor asked Ava about her interest in serving.

Ava stated she wants to serve on the Youth Commission as a way to help her community. She said she is excited to now learn how the government aspect of the community works. Ava is excited to meet other teens at school by being a part of the Youth Commission and trying to connect with other teens.

Trustees thanked both Ava for her willingness to serve.

Trustee La Bedz moved, seconded by Trustee Schwingbeck to recommend that the Village Board of Trustees recommend Ava McQuade for appointment to the Youth Commission (youth member), term ending 4-30-2024 

The following voice vote was recorded: 

8 Ayes 0 Nays 

The motion passed. 

B. Interview of Christopher Lee Hong for appointment to the Youth Commission (youth member), term ending 4-30-2024. 

The Mayor asked Christopher about his interest in serving.

Christopher feels that Arlington Heights has opened up so many opportunities for him. He would like to connect the youth of the community to the Village Board. Christopher hopes that he will hear from other teens what they thinking and bring those messages to the Youth Commission.

Trustees thanked Christopher for his willingness to serve.

Trustee Baldino moved, seconded by Trustee Grasse to recommend that the Village Board of Trustees recommend Christopher Lee Hong for appointment to the Youth Commission, term ending 4-30-2024. 

The following voice vote was recorded: 

8 Ayes 0 Nays 

The motion passed. 

C. Consideration of recommending to the Liquor Commissioner the issuance of a Class A liquor license to BNL Arlington Heights, Inc. dba Brunch Cafe located at 306 E. Rand Road. 

The Mayor swore in Andrew Zatos, owner of Brunch Café.

Ms. Mikula gave the staff report. She stated that this location had previously been WynBurg Café which did not hold a liquor license and prior to that Gail’s Carriage House, which did have a liquor license.

Police completed a background check on Andrew Zatos and no issues were noted. A walk through was conducted on July 14 and the submitted floor plan matched what was observed.

Upon a satisfactory interview tonight, Ms. Mikula stated, it would be appropriate to issue a Class A liquor license to BNL Arlington Heights Inc. dba Brunch Café located at 306 E. Rand Road.

Mayor Hayes asked Mr. Zatos about his other locations as Brunch Cafe. Mr. Zatos stated this will be his 11 location and they all have full liquor licenses. Mr. Zatos stated he has never had a liquor violation. The Mayor stated it is very commendable that none of the locations have every been revoked or cited for any liquor violations. Basset training of the new staff was discussed.

Trustees thanked Mr. Zatos for bringing his business to Arlington Heights. Trustees discussed the fact that there have been no violations and that the Police Department will be conducting compliance checks.

Trustee Grasse moved, seconded by Trustee Tinaglia to recommend that the Village Board of Trustees recommend to the Liquor Commissioner the issuance of a Class A liquor license to BNL Arlington Heights Inc dba Brunch Café located at 306 E. Rand Road. 

The following voice vote was recorded:

8 Ayes 0 Nays 

The motion passed. 

D. OTHER BUSINESS - None

E. ADJOURNMENT – Trustee Baldino moved, seconded by Trustee Schwingbeck to adjourn. The meeting adjourned at 7:26 pm.
