Village of Arlington Heights Board of Fire and Police Commission met May 15.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission: 

Commissioner Lynn Szabo called the meeting to order at 4:34p.m. The purpose of this meeting is to interview two Firefighter candidate, review and approve the open and closed session minutes from March 28, 2023, and vote on eligibility of specific candidates.

Roll call of members: Lynn Szabo, Commissioner Dean Walsh, Commissioner

Also present were: Kelly Livingston, Assistant Director of Human Resources Dave Roberts, Fire Division Chief Greg Czernecki, Deputy Police Chief

Citizens to be heard: No one in attendance

Commissioner Lynn Szabo moved to review and approve the Open Session minutes of March 28 2023.

Motion was seconded by Dean Walsh.

Motion approved.

Roll call: Ayes: Szabo, Walsh Nayes: None Absent: Ramirez-Alonso

At 4:36p.m. Commissioner Lynn Szabo moved to go into Closed Session per 5ILCS120/2(c) (1):  appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees or legal counsel.

Motion was seconded by Dean Walsh.

Motion approved.

Roll call: Ayes: Szabo, Walsh Nayes: None Absent: Ramirez-Alonso

Deputy Police Chief Greg Czernecki joined closed session at 5:10pm. 

At 5:25p.m. Commissioner Dean Walsh moved to end Closed Session and go to Open Session.

Motion was seconded by Lynn Szabo.

Motion approved.

Roll call: Ayes: Szabo, Walsh Nayes: None Absent: Ramirez-Alonso

At the conclusion of the interview for Firefighter, the Board determined both individuals to have met the criteria and continue the candidates in the process. 

Commissioner Dean Walsh made a motion to continue applicant, candidate 4 in the process for Firefighter, pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 4.3 Background  Investigation and Medical Exams. 

Motion was seconded by Lynn Szabo.

Motion approved.

Roll call: Ayes: Szabo, Walsh Nayes: None Absent: Ramirez-Alonso

Commissioner Lynn Szabo made a motion to continue applicant, candidate 6 in the process for  Firefighter, pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 4.3 Background  Investigation and Medical Exams. 

Motion was seconded by Dean Walsh.

Motion approved.

Roll call: Ayes: Szabo, Walsh Nayes: None Absent: Ramirez-Alonso

Commissioner Dean Walsh moved to disqualify applicant, candidate 7, from further consideration of employment with the Fire Department pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 2.4 Disqualifications.

Motion was seconded by Lynn Szabo.

Motion approved.

Roll call: Ayes: Szabo, Walsh Nayes: None Absent: Ramirez-Alonso

Commissioner Dean Walsh moved to disqualify applicant, candidate 4B, from further consideration of employment with the Police Department pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 2.4 Disqualifications.

Motion was seconded by Lynn Szabo.

Motion approved.

Commissioner Lynn Szabo moved to disqualify applicant, candidate 5B, from further consideration of employment with the Police Department pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 2.4 Disqualifications.

Motion was seconded by Dean Walsh.

Commissioner Lynn Szabo moved to disqualify applicant, candidate 8B, from further consideration of employment with the Police Department pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 2.4 Disqualifications.

Motion was seconded by Dean Walsh.

There being no further business to discuss, Commissioner Dean Walsh made a motion to adjourn Open Session at 5:30p.m.
