Minutes approval from March 29th- Jackie made motion to approve, Larry & David seconded.
Public Portion:
1. Discussion of pending vendor applications. Committee approved: Sweet Chef on Wheels (formerly Taste of Paris), Tastefully Simple/Monte's Treats/Monika's Crepes, The Cheese People, Kiki's Cotton Candy, Rickey's Jerky, Aztec Catering Co, Chef Heatleys. T&D Bakery was rejected as we have too many sweet vendors each week.
2. Finding more vendors: Paulette has been scouring other farmer markets on Facebook and possible future invitees.
3. Discuss Facebook Advertisements: Ed showed last year’s expenses of $735.00 with a budget of $750. All voted to retain the budget of $750 for this year. He does a bigger Facebook ‘push’ at the beginning of the market, midway when the corn arrives, and our 2nd half after Labor Day.
4. Musical entertainment: Jackie advised all but 2 weeks are filled. Discussed monetary gift to the entertainers. Last year was $25. All agreed to increase the monetary gift will be $35 each week.
5. Local resident- Monica Duffy gave a presentation on her idea to do an educational tent for children perhaps under 12 yrs old. She has a pop-up tent and lots of ideas such as ways to engage children in our farmers market exposing them to various fruits and vegetables. One idea is having the children use a voucher at certain farmer booths to receive an apple or a few green beans etc.
* We would have to coordinate w/ farmers in advance. She would also have books, music games etc. More development needed but overall, the committee liked the idea and gave approval. Monica will run this event weekly or biweekly.
6. Gift supplier- all agreed no other purchases this year. We have lots of spatulas left from last year and a carton of pads of paper to pass out
7. Open Floor- Beth & Jackie commented on the need for cooking instructions to be provided by the vendors. All agreed. Greg commented any product such as soft cheese cannot go back in the coolers, must be discarded per Illinois Health Laws.
Paulette read a letter received from a resident to Bev Sussman. The student admitted to doing a class assignment and chose the Farmers Market. She wanted to have more nonprofits and kid's activities, plus inviting stores to participate in the market.
* We discussed and agreed this student may not understand the purpose or scope of a farmers’ market. We highlight farmers and local vendors! Paulette will send a response to the student.
Andy reminded everyone of the open meetings act- if we are sending emails to the team, be sure to use BBC to everyone.
Next meeting May 22nd 7pm conference room
Move to conclude meeting- motion made by Beth and 2nd by David.
