WASHINGTON — Congressmen Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL-08) and Ralph Norman (R-SC-05) announced the reformation of the bipartisan Congressional Solar Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives, which they originally co-founded in 2018. Since its launch five years ago, the Congressional Solar Caucus has served as a unique forum for Members of Congress and the public to discuss high-priority issues relating to the renewable energy and solar technology production sectors.
“I am proud to join Congressman Norman in relaunching the Bipartisan Solar Caucus to continue our work tackling the issues facing American communities and our solar sector,” said Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi. “This term, we will continue to bring policymakers, business leaders, and the public together to help harness the economic and job-creating potential of American solar technology.”
“I am honored to co-chair the Bipartisan Solar Caucus with my colleague, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi,” said Congressman Norman. “I am grateful for his knowledge and leadership as we continue to see more alternative energy options for consumers emerge. I look forward to the bright future of this caucus.”
“Poll after poll shows that solar energy is America’s favorite fuel source and its popularity transcends political party,” said Abigail Ross Hopper, president and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). “Americans overwhelmingly want to expand solar energy use, and that’s why it’s so encouraging to see members of Congress working in a bipartisan fashion to support the industry that employs 255,000 of their constituents. As the leading voice on solar and storage, we are so grateful for our champions in Congress, especially Solar Caucus members, for continuing to keep clean energy a bipartisan legislative priority this session and beyond.”
As the former president of solar firm in the Chicago suburbs, Congressman Krishnamoorthi is the first Member of Congress to come from the solar industry. Congressman Norman joined his father's property and construction business right after college to help it grow into one of South Carolina's most successful commercial real estate developers.
Members of the Solar Caucus include Brendan Boyle, Julia Brownley, Salud Carbajal, Matt Cartwright, Gerald Connolly, John Curtis, Sharice Davids Debbie Dingell, Jeff Duncan, Brian Fitzpatrick, Paul Gosar, Eleanor Holmes Norton, Rick Larsen, Zoe Lofgren, Joe Neguse, Donald Norcross, Jamie Raskin, Raul Ruiz, Darren Soto, Paul Tonko, Marc Veasey, Debbie Wasserman Schultz
