CHICAGO – On May 12, U.S. Representatives Raja Krishnamoorthi and Delia Ramirez issued the following statement in response to the announcement that the Coalition to Stop CPKC is appealing the Surface Transportation Board’s (STB) approval of the merger of the Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern railroads:
“As the communities from Elgin to Bensenville appeal the Surface Transportation Board’s flawed decision approving the Canadian Pacific-Kansas City Southern merger, we support their efforts to ensure that CPKC addresses the community concerns regarding the merger’s impacts on public safety, local businesses, transit, and the general wellbeing of residents. The supplemental Environmental Impact Statement the Coalition to Stop CPKC is requesting could provide critical information on the anticipated harmful effects of this merger on our entire region, and it should be a priority to assess the impacts of the merger before moving forward with any action. We will continue our work with the coalition and other local leaders to ensure the concerns of our constituents are heard and fairly addressed.”
