Northwestern Wrestling Qualifies Nine For NCAA Championships
Nine members of the Northwestern wrestling team have secured bids to the NCAA Wrestling Championships. This year's edition of the national meet will be held at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla., March 16-18.
Over the past two seasons, Northwestern has qualified 19 student-athletes for the NCAA Championships, its most over a two-year stretch in program history. The Wildcats' nine qualifiers rank second among Big Ten Conference institutions, alongside reigning Big Ten Champion Penn State, Ohio State, and Minnesota.
Set to represent the 'Cats in Tulsa are Michael DeAugustino (125 pounds), Chris Cannon (133 pounds), Frankie Tal-Shahar (141 pounds), Yahya Thomas (149 pounds), Trevor Chumbley (157 pounds), Maxx Mayfield (165 pounds), Troy Fisher (174 pounds), Andrew Davison (197 pounds), and Lucas Davison (285 pounds). Eight Wildcats earned automatic bids to the NCAA Championships based off their respective finishes at this past weekend's Big Ten Championships, while Fisher received an at-large bid.
Seeds for each Northwestern participant, which were announced on Thursday evening by the NCAA, are listed below.
125 lbs – No. 12 Michael DeAugustino

Northwestern is coming off a successful showing at the Big Ten Championships that saw seven Wildcats earn podium finishes.
DeAugustino, Cannon, and Chumbley led the 'Cats, each placing fourth in their respective weight classes. Chumbley enjoyed a terrific run through the back half of the bracket, knocking off three higher seeded opponents en route to his first appearance on the podium.
Like Chumbley, Mayfield enjoyed a strong showing of his own in his first Big Ten Championships appearance, battling to a fifth-place finish. Davison rounded out the 'Cats group of top-five finishers, taking fifth at heavyweight for the second time in as many seasons.
The ESPN family of networks will provide comprehensive coverage of the 2023 NCAA Wrestling Championships, culminating with championships matches at each weight class on Saturday, March 18 at 6 p.m.
