Reception held for new Ranger College president
The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce held a reception Thursday to welcome Derrick Worrels, who has been named president of Ranger College.
“We at Ranger College simply want to be a part of the community,” Worrels said at the reception. “What we’re trying to do is create a culture of care and love and embrace the community. We want to make our economy thrive. We want Ranger to thrive as well.”
Worrels previously served as the senior vice president of student services before this new role.
Throughout his career in education, he took on several roles including men’s basketball coach, athletic director, adjunct professor and assistant dean at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Florida. He earned a bachelor’s in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Asheville, a master’s in psychology from National Louis University, and is pursuing a doctorate of education in community college leadership with Kansas State University.
