City of Elgin Cultural Arts Commission met Oct. 10.
Here is the minutes provided by the commission:
A. Call to Order: 6:00pm
B. Roll Call:
a. Commissioners Miceli, Einterz, Rende, Syrris present. Councilwoman Powell present, Chairwoman Rehberg present. Staff Harris and Wilhelmi present.
C. Citizen’s Forum:
a. None present.
D. Staff Report:
a. Financial Report:
i. Inspired Elgin charges and Public Art charges are coming through.
ii. Utility Box wrapping charges are starting now.
b. Hemmens:
i. Focusing on Nightmare on Chicago Street at the moment.
ii. South and east side of the building is undergoing basement roof, flashing, and paver updates.
c. Elgin Art Showcase:
i. Work continues in the space.
d. Approval of September 2022 Minutes:
i. Motion to approve the September Minutes by Commissioner Syrris. Seconded by Commissioner Rende. Approved by a vote of 4-0-2 with Commissioners Miceli and Einterz abstaining.
E. Old Business
a. 2022 ECAC Projects:
i. Making Space:
1. Working to ensure that all documentation is in line. Additional work is being done with Chasity Gunn and Michael Novelli for additional content.
b. Councilwoman Powell arrived at 6:13pm
i. Inspired Elgin:
1. Good programming. Low attendance.
ii. Elgin Short Film Festival:
1. Great weather and a good crowd.
2. Thinking of ways to grow this event and update it for the future.
iii. Artist Workshops- moved to next month.
1. NFP management: what you can do to be more efficient

F. Other Old Business:
a. Utility Box Wrap update:
i. The four selected artists are under contract and will be connected with the printer soon.
b. Juneteenth Funding:
i. The website is currently not live.
ii. The final report shows the event made a profit.
c. Hemmens Cultural Center North Side Renovation and Addition:
i. Will be presenting to the City Council in November.
G. New Business:
a. 2023 Organizational Grant Applications:
i. A total of 13 applications ave been submitted.
b. 2023 Proposals:
i. Due by the first meeting in November.
H. Other New Business
a. Art Harvest:
i. Coming up on October 29th at DuPage Court.
ii. Kerri Lui, Elgin Symphony Orchestra and Side Street Studio Arts are partnering to share Elgin Spooky Stories.
