Hanover Park Village Council marked a promotion and several additions to its police department during its Nov. 3 meeting that was streamed on YouTube.
Officers Sabina Hosea, Alysse Lamz, Michal Ogara and Nirali Patel were recognized during the meeting, with Mayor Rodney Craig noting that the board supports the training, education and professional skills of its employees.
“We believe in taking care of one another,” Craig said during the meeting. “I expect every one of our officers to go home to their families at the end of the shift. It's a tough job. This board supports the training, education and skills. And so I'm really pleased when we swear in. And Sabina, you know, you've been around a while. I'm very proud of that. And the other officers standing in the back need to be reminded that we care for them. We expect a safe community, a family oriented community, and we're providing for that today.”
Hosea, a 15-year veteran of the department, was promoted to the rank of sergeant, with her mother, husband and daughter attending the meeting. It was noted that she started as a desk officer, moving up the ranks until she was named a detective three years ago. She has received numerous commendations for being instrumental in saving several lives.
Lamz, who joined the department in September, was officially sworn in during the session. Before joining the department, she was an adult probation officer with Will County Court Services.
Ogara, who joined the department in August, also was sworn in with his parents, wife and two children attending. He is slated to graduate from the police academy in December. During the session, it was noted he worked as a security officer at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.
Patel, who has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, joined the department as a clerk in 2021 and was hired as a police officer over the summer, according to the stream. She will also graduate from the academy next month. Her family attended the ceremony.
