The Village of Winnetka Board of Trustees amended a special liquor license for a business during its Nov. 15 meeting.
The village board uploaded a livestream of its public meeting to the village’s YouTube channel.
Local bakery Brittany’s Butters and Gourmet Bakery approached the village for a liquor license with a special request. It is a retail bakery set to open before the end of the year but wants to add the license so that in addition to its retail activities, it can host cooking classes in its establishment each week. The regular bakery would be closed during the classes.
These cooking demonstrations would be on a reservation-only basis and would have 8-10 people per group. As a part of this service the bakery owners want to be able to provide wine to their guests. There is however, no liquor license in the village that would fit this situation within a retail setting. A liquor license that was the best fit was selected and discussed with the village attorney who gave some suggestions.
The board briefly noted that any business that seeks to serve alcohol for any reason must apply for a license and go through the process.
“If their business model falls under the classification of being a specialty restaurant and yeah, they could apply for an A4,” Police Chief Marc Hornstein said. “Right now in the village for all our different license holders that we have, there's nobody that has an A4 for so we don't have any."
The change in the liquor license added bakeries into the category of specialty restaurant and changed the language to say served alongside food from the establishment rather than multicourse meals.
The bakery shared the hours that the planned to use this license throughout the week, Tuesdays through Saturdays.
The village board voted to adopt this new license and permit it to the bakery.
The board will meet again at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at 510 Green Bay Road.
