Big Second Half Lifts Northwestern to 75-63 win at Georgetown

The Northwestern men's basketball team scored 42 second half points to win on the road at Georgetown, 75-63, in the Gavitt Tipoff Games at Capital One Arena on Tuesday night.

The Wildcats (3-0) had three players score in double figures, led by Chase Audige, who had 17 points, with 13 in the second half, and four assists. Boo Buie added 12 points, all in the second half, and six assists and Robbie Beran helped out with 11 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.

Northwestern shared the ball, racking up 18 assists on 27 made field goals. Individually, Buie dished out the most for the Wildcats with six assists and Julian Roper also helped out with four assists of his own.

Northwestern forced 13 Georgetown turnovers. The Wildcats turned those takeaways into 12 points on the offensive end of the floor. Brooks Barnhizer's four steals led the way for Northwestern.The Hoyas (2-1) were held under 90 points for the first time this season.

How It Happened

Northwestern began the game connecting on three three-pointers and led 9-3 early. The Wildcats trailed by only two at halftime, 35-33, despite Buie and Audige combining for just four points.

After intermission, Northwestern kept the Hoyas from increasing their lead before going on a 9-0 run, finished off by Audige's three, to seize a 49-42 lead with 14:03 to go in the contest. The Wildcats kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 75-63 win. Northwestern shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting eight shots from deep to score 24 of its 42 points.

The Wildcats begin their 2022-23 MTE, the Cancun Challenge, with an on-campus game at Welsh-Ryan Arena against preseason Horizon League favorite Purdue Fort Wayne at 7 p.m. CT on Friday, Nov. 18.
