For the fourth time this season, Aneesah Morrow is an All-American.
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association announced its All-American Team on Thursday and the DePaul breakout rookie was selected to the Second Team.
Previously, the standout power forward who leads the nation in rebounding had been honored on All-American teams by the Associated Press, Sports Illustrated and The Athletic.
Even though DePaul's season came to an end Wednesday night after an NCAA First Four loss to Dayton at Hilton Coliseum, Morrow continues to receive postseason accolades. She is also a finalist for two of the most coveted awards in college basketball---the John Wooden and Naismith Trophy National Player of the Year.
The Athletic's National Freshman of the Year and was a top 10 finalist for Naismith Defensive Player of the Year.
The 6-foot, 1-inch power forward had an unbelievable season, taking the world of NCAA women's basketball by storm. Not listed among the nation's top 100 recruits, she has skyrocketed to the top of the charts.
She leads the nation in double-doubles, rebounds, rebounds per game and offensive rebounds per game. She is second in the country in field goals heading up the NCAA's No. 1 offense averaging 87.3 points a game. She is also No. 5 in points and No. 6 in steals.
The unanimous All-BIG EAST First Team selection and unanimous BIG EAST Freshman of the Year broke 11 conference records including most rebounds in a game (27 at Seton Hall) and most rebounds in a season (BIG EAST games). Her 41 points at Creighton set a new freshman standard.
She made history as the first player ever to win five U.S. Basketball Writers Assn. (USBWA) National Freshman of Week awards and the first to win 13 BIG EAST Freshman of the Week awards. The previous USBWA standard of four was held by the country's top two sophomores---Connecticut's Paige Bueckers and Iowa's All-American Caitlin Clark who leads the nation in scoring.
Morrow's streak of 23 consecutive double-doubles that was snapped at the BIG EAST tournament leaves her in very exclusive company as only three other players in NCAA history had 20-straight or more in one season.
The relentless rebounder stunned coaches and recruiting experts nationwide with her 31-point, nine-rebound NCAA debut against Texas Southern. Morrow said that being overlooked and watching Top 25 schools lose interest while she battled through a series of injuries has her playing with a considerable chip on her broad shoulder.
The former Simeon All-Stater has made sure to be a commanding presence on and off the court. She currently carries a perfect 4.0 grade-point average, competing academically with the same ferocity she displays between the lines.
The USBWA has named a women's All-America Team since the 1987-88 season. Since the 2017-18 season, the USBWA has expanded the team to honor 15 players on three teams, regardless of position. The All-America Team is selected by the USBWA board after voting from the entire membership and the honor is based on performance during the regular season and conference tournaments.
