The Judson University Track and Field Team traveled with a smaller group than normal to Ripon's invitational as the Eagles focused on the sprinters and field athletes in the final tune-up prior to the CCAC Championships next weekend. Highlighting the day was Dakari Ferguson's NAIA B-Standard performance in the high jump as he won Saturday's competition with a 2.01-meter performance. He is the first high jumper for Judson to ever qualify for nationals and his mark also becomes the new school record for indoor track and field.
Judson had other top-three finishes. Serena Miller finished second in the high jump with a 1.45m performance. Gina Misek had podium finishes with a second-place 60-meter hurdle showing (9.52m) and a tie for third place in the high jump (1.40m). Kiwaun Seals (13.25m) and Zach Fitzgerald (12.67m) finished second and third respectively in the triple jump.
The Eagles other outstanding performances include Brandon Mackey's fifth-place finish in the 60-meter dash (7.22, which was a new personal record); Trey Sayers' fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash (24.00); Lauren Jones' fifth-place finish in the 400-meter run (1:05.32); and Miller's sixth-place finish in the 60-meter dash (8.52 seconds in the finals).
We wanted one more tune-up before the conference meet next week. Overall, we performed well, and we look ready to go for next week," said Head Coach Cam Knudsen. "Our focus is doing well at conference and I believe this meet set us up to do so."
The conference meet begins on Friday in Bourbonnais, Illinois.
