Sean Morrison Announces Re-Election Campaign for Cook County Commissioner, 17th District
Palos Park, IL — Cook County Commissioner Sean M. Morrison has announced his re-election campaign for the 17th District, Cook County Board of Commissioners seat, which he has held since 2015. In 2018, Commissioner Morrison was elected to a full four-year term by the voters of the 17th District.
Commissioner Morrison’s focus on the Cook County Board has remained squarely on fighting irresponsible tax and spend policies, advocating for innovative reform measures that will reduce the cost of government, increase efficiencies, and improve services. In 2017, Commissioner Morrison authored the ordinance that led to the successful repeal of the Cook County Sweetened Beverage ‘Soda’ Tax. Sean also fought to successfully defeat proposed increases to the county's gasoline tax, cable tax, and other tax increase proposals.
Sean Morrison is a leading voice on the county board when it comes to fighting for effective public safety policies — providing support for our local law enforcement officers. Moreover, Sean was the only commissioner to vote ‘NO’ against the ‘Defund the Police’ movement targeting the Cook County Sheriff’s Office in 2020.
Sean Morrison is often the lone member of the Cook County Board challenging the misguided and failed policies of both State’s Attorney Kim Foxx and Chief Judge Tim Evans. These policies have led to the release of violent criminals back onto Cook County streets — resulting in a surge in crime and repeat offenders. "The rise in violent crime is a serious issue for all communities. I remain committed to taking on the flawed policies of Kim Foxx that jeopardizes the safety of every family in Cook County," said Commissioner Morrison.
Over the past six years, Sean Morrison has been the leading critic — often time the only critic — of the poor fiscal policies and mismanagement at the Cook County Health & Hospital System. As a result of his outspoken efforts, over the last two years the county’s hospital system has seen a major overhaul of its top administration, as well as new reform measures implemented to address the health system’s operational and fiscal problems.
Under Commissioner Morrison’s leadership, significant investment has surged in the 17th District during his term in office. The 17th District has gained tens of millions of dollars in new infrastructure investment over this time and Morrison looks forward to advocating for even more over the next four years. "I’ve worked hard to advocate for our suburban communities, and I will remain steadfast in this approach to see that resources are fairly allocated to our suburban communities in the 17th District," said Morrison.
Commissioner Morrison serves as Chairman of the Workers’ Compensation Committee, Vice Chairman of the Audit Committee and Vice Chairman of the Technology & Innovation Committee. As a member of the Forest Preserve District of Cook County Board of Commissioners, he also serves as its Chairman of the Workers’ Compensation Committee and Chairman of the Recreation Committee.
Commissioner Sean Morrison lives in the Village of Palos Park with his wife Lora, a registered nurse, and their two daughters.
