State Rep. Michelle Mussman (D-Schaumburg) encourages Illinoisans to consider donations to the Boys & Girls Club this holiday season.
The Boys and Girls Club provides children with programs to help them achieve healthy lifestyles, academic success, and good character and citizenship. The organization offers youth mentoring, safe locations for students to go after school, and help with everything from homework to a hot meal, according to its site.
“Join in some holiday giving by donating to the Boys & Girls Club of America," Mussman posted on Facebook. "Many of our local families make great use of their Schaumburg location. It’s an incredible program giving support and camaraderie to so many kids.”
For a $100 donation, donors can provide a “Box of Hope” for one family, the Boys and Girls Club said. "Each box will be filled with winter gear and activities for the holiday break," its website said.
The Boys & Girls Club of Elgin was founded on Nov. 9, 1993.
"In Fall 2018, 5 new club sites were opened in U-46 schools, including 4 new sites in Streamwood & BGCE took over operations at the Schaumburg Teen Center (The Barn)," the organization said. "Now with 17 locations after-school, the Club serves nearly 1,000 members every day! The Club completed its two-year long renovation project of adding a commercial kitchen to the clubhouse. Now, over 500 meals are served daily and members are leaving will full bellies."
The Boys & Girls Club is also looking for volunteers.
"As little as one hour per week is all it takes to have a positive impact on a child’s life," the organization said.
