Village of Arlington Heights Committee-Of-The-Whole Met July 21.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

President Hayes called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.

BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: President Hayes; Trustees, Canty, LaBedz, Bertucci, Grasse, Scaletta, and Schwingbeck

BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT: Trustees Baldino and Tinaglia

STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT: Assistant Village Manager Diana Mikula

OTHERS PRESENT: Bhupendrakumar (Bob) Patel, Pravinkumar (Pravin) Patel, Susan Skrudland and Melissa Cayer

A. Consideration of recommending to the Liquor Commissioner the issuance of a Class B and T Liquor License to Ma Jagat Ambe, Inc dba D & D Smoke & Spirits located at 1405 E. Palatine Rd.

The petitioners introduced themselves and were sworn in by the Mayor.

Assistant Village Manager Diana Mikula gave the staff report. Ms. Mikula stated that this is a new license and there has never been a liquor license at this location. The police did background checks on both owners and there were no issues noted.

Ms. Mikula did a walk through on July 12, 2021. Ms. Mikula stated that the space was not built out yet and that she will conduct another walk through when completed. Upon a satisfactory interview, Assistant Village Manager Mikula indicated that staff recommends the issuance of a Class B and T liquor license, upon confirmation of the floor plan.

The Mayor pointed out the extensive liquor experience of both owners and asked them to give an overview. Mr. Pravin Patel has been in the liquor business for 27 years and Mr. Bob Patel has had experience with liquor stores and Subway shops.

The Trustees thanked the applicants for choosing Arlington Heights to open their business. Discussion ensued regarding the number of employees and management of the store. The importance of Bassett training was highlighted. The applicants stated they have not had any violations at any of their locations and they do have security cameras on premise.

Trustee Bertucci moved, seconded by Trustee Canty to recommend that the Village Board of Trustees recommend to the Liquor Commissioner the issuance of a Class B and T Liquor License to Ma Jagat Ambe, Inc. dba D & D Smoke & Spirits located at 1405 E. Palatine Road, upon confirmation of floor plan.

The following voice vote was recorded:

7 Ayes 0 Nays

The motion passed.

B. Interview of Susan Skrudland for appointment to the Environmental Commission – term ending 4/30/24

The Mayor introduced Susan Skrudland and stated that she is well qualified and has many good ideas for the Commission. The Mayor thanked Susan for her willingness to serve.

Susan stated that she feels that this is a great opportunity for her to serve her community and this is an area she is very interested in. Ms. Skrudland would like to work on communications to the public and businesses regarding the environment, she feels that awareness and getting the word out are very important. Ms. Skrudland and the Trustees discussed ways the Village can have the most impact. Getting everyone involved even in small ways was stressed as well as education awareness.

Trustee Scaletta moved to concur in the Mayor’s appointment of Susan Skrudland for appointment to the Environmental Commission – term ending April 30, 2024. Trustee LaBedez seconded the motion.

The following voice vote was recorded:

7 Ayes 0 Nays

The motion passed.

C. OTHER BUSINESS – Melissa Cayer inquired as to why the meeting had been moved from Monday to Wednesday. Assistant Village Manager Mikula stated that two holidays were being observed.

D. ADJOURNMENT – Trustee Scaletta moved, seconded by Trustee Schwingbeck to adjourn. The meeting adjourned at 7:26 pm.
