Gubernatorial hopeful Gary Rabine enjoyed meeting people at the Elgin Township GOP picnic last week.

He has been passionately campaigning for a better Illinois and every campaign stop he sees to it he can personally talk to people.

"Great time at the Elgin GOP Picnic today, met a ton of awesome people and had a fun time,” Rabine posted on Facebook. “Join us in #pavingthewaytostay. Pitch in $5 today!”

As a Bull Valley businessman of more than four decades, he said he has seen Illinois as a better state many years back compared with the way it is today.

“I’ve seen Illinois go from being the best place to build a business to being one of the worst,” Rabine said at a recent Get Together event hosted by the Antioch Republicans and posted to Facebook, Lake County Gazette reported. “When we look at our policy for workmen’s compensation it’s one of the worst three in the country.”

According to him many of Illinois’ challenges “are rooted in its crippling property tax rates, which, along with other policies, have led to many fleeing the state in droves.”

“When we look at taxation today, we have the highest real estate taxes in the country, a terrible thing,” Rabine said. “In that time from 2007 to today, our property values have gone down. Other states don’t have these problems.”

Rabine said he knows how leaders should do the job. Despite knowing that being the head of state won’t come easily, Rabine is certain his experiences have molded him into a strong leader.

“I’ve been in business for 40 years, the last 20 building businesses as a leader, understanding what great leadership looks like and it’s not what we see in our governor and our mayor of Chicago,” he said. “I’m confident we need a leadership mindset that understands how to build leaders and doesn’t rule like royalty.”
