Village of Arlington Heights Committee-of-The-Whole Met July 6.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

President Hayes called the meeting to order at 7:15 PM.

BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: President Hayes; Trustees Baldino, Bertucci, Canty, Grasse, LaBedz, Scaletta, and Tinaglia

BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT: Trustee Schwingbeck

STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT: Village Manager Randy Recklaus and Assistant Village Manager Diana Mikula

OTHERS PRESENT: Jay Virchow

A. Interview of Jay Virchow for appointment to the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission- term ending 4-30-2023

Mayor Hayes introduced Jay Virchow and stated that he would be qualified for many of the Boards and Commissions and Mr. Virchow has a strong interest in bicycle safety.

Trustees thanked Mr. Virchow for his willingness to serve. Trustee Tinaglia stated he knows many that have had bicycle accidents and was wondering what can be done and why this seems to be happening. Mr. Virchow stated that there are both motorists and bicyclists that are reckless and that there is need for more signage. Mr. Virchow feels that more outreach is needed as well, especially focusing on those that are younger. Discussion ensued regarding reaching out to schools as well as including walking and skateboarding in the safety education.

Trustee Canty moved, seconded by Trustee Grasse to concur in the Mayor’s appointment of Jay Virchow for appointment to the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission – term ending 4-30-2023.

The following voice vote was recorded: 8 Ayes 0 Nays

The motion passed.

B. OTHER BUSINESS – None

C. ADJOURNMENT – Trustee Tinaglia moved, and Trustee LaBedz seconded the motion to adjourn. The meeting was adjourned at 7:26pm.
