Give Businesses a Break
The pandemic posed many challenges to my business. Like others, my office had to adjust to working
remotely and navigate the tumultuous environment. What I have come to realize is that the biggest drag
on a business is not a sudden shock or an unforeseen hurdle. Rather, it is overcoming the continuous
high costs associated with out-of-control taxation and regulation by the government.
Lawmakers in Springfield have no problem tinkering with the minimum wage, implementing progressive
tax increases, or making it easier for companies to be sued. Yet, each year, these same legislators act
confused when tax receipts come up short of their expectations. Maybe one day they will come to the
realization that their bad policy decisions are forcing businesses to flee the state in droves.
Illinois legislators need to wake up to the fact that their actions have consequences. The business
community cannot afford to continue being treated like second class citizens. I am calling on our
representatives in Springfield to be more cognizant of the private sector’s needs.
