Dana Blumberg wants to make sure everyone sees the big picture in the race to return all students back to in-person learning on a full-time basis.
"The single most pressing issue at this time is post-pandemic learning," Blumberg, who is running for a set on the Deerfield School District 109 school board as a member of the ABC slate, told Patch.com. "As a district, our immediate focus must be to answer the basic question what is school going to look like next year?' If we go back to school next fall and only focus on academics or 'catching up,' we are missing a huge piece of the puzzle. We need to focus on providing an education for the whole child that focuses on relationships, connection and community."
One of eight candidates competing for four seats, Blumberg said that all starts with conducting a needs assessment for students, teachers and families alike.
In such a crowded field, Blumberg said she thinks she stands out based on her background and vision for the future.
"I think my background as a school counselor and current role as [a] school administrator have given me a unique perspective," she said. "It is important to have an educator on the Board who is in a school every day, working with teachers, school leaders and students. I know how a Board decision will trickle down and affect instruction and my vision goes far beyond our current health crisis. The pandemic has shed light on many of the issues we face when educating our children."
Blumberg said voters should trust her based on transparency and her deep desire to do what's best for the community and its students.
"I believe in saying "I don't know,' when I don't have an answer," she said. "I am willing and ready to work with current board members and look forward to collaborating and working together."
The 41-year-old Blumberg resides in Deerfield with her husband and two young daughters.
