Public safety stock 01

Evanston Police Department issued the following announcement on Dec. 28.

The Evanston Police Department is in the final stages of accreditation through the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP). Accreditation demonstrates the department's commitment to improving its relationship with the community and holds the department more accountable for its actions, with the additional benefits of limiting liability and risk exposure.

To complete the process, ILEAP assessors, Sgt. Wilson from Bensenville PD and Cmd. Yaras from Morton Grove PD, will be at the Evanston Police Department for an on-site assessment on Wednesday, January 20 and Thursday, January 21, 2021.

Members of the community are invited to offer comments to the assessment team by calling 847-866-5086 on January 20 between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Comments should address the department’s ability to meet the ILEAP standards. The ILEAP standards can be viewed online at www.ilchiefs.org.

The Evanston Police Department is achieving Tier 2 Accreditation, 180 standards. The standards include administration, operations, training, and personnel. The accreditation team has been reviewing all of the department's policies to ensure that it not only has the required policies in place, but that it is following those policies.
