ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 55: Moylan Applauds the Distribution of $156 Million in Grants to Child Care Providers amid COVID-19

55

Illinois State House District 55 issued the following announcement on Oct. 2

State Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, commends the $156 million in Business Interruption Grants (BIG) awarded to child care providers and strongly recommends to business owners still in need of this crucial funding to apply for the second round of BIG grant distribution which is currently open.

“Child care providers provide a critical service for working families and must be able to remain operable in order for us to activate our economy following the fallout brought on by COVID-19,” Moylan said. “These businesses were among the most impacted by the ongoing pandemic, so the wide range of grants distributed to child care providers were, and continue to remain, essential.”

During the first round of BIG grant distribution, $156 million was distributed across 95 counties to 4,686 child care providers with 47% of the funding given to providers in areas disproportionately affected by COVID-19. During the second round of BIG grant distribution, an additional $114 million will be available for child care centers and family child care homes which are licensed by the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and currently open. Applications for Child Care Restoration Grants are available until Oct. 15 and can be found at https://www.ilgateways.com/financial-opportunities/restoration-grants. Applications for BIG grants are also available now and can be found at https://www2.illinois.gov/dceo/SmallBizAssistance/Pages/C19DisadvantagedBusGrants.aspx.

“During this time of uncertainty, we have to continue to prioritize the small businesses of our community who help drive our economy,” Moylan said. “I encourage our area’s business owners to take advantage of these new resources available to them.”
