North Maine FPD responds to 24 fires in 2018

North Maine Fire Protection District responded to 490 calls in 2018 - 10.9 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in North Maine included 24 fires - 13 structure fires, two vehicle fires and nine other fires. The fire department also responded to five calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $5,239,852 in fire loss - or about $218,327 per fire.

The department also received 461 false calls, including eight malicious calls and 453 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related death. Additionally, four fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents and one was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The North Maine Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $6,932,644 in 2017.

The North Maine FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 22 active employees and 31 retired or inactive employees, was $797,356 positive as of December 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $23,452 for every fire in 2017.
