EVANSTON TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 202: In memoriam: Ertha Giroux-Boney, ETHS staff member

Wrongfuldeath

Evanston Township High School District 202 issued the following announcement on Aug. 9.

The Evanston Township High School community is deeply saddened that one of our ETHS staff members, Ertha Giroux-Boney, died on August 7, 2020. Ms. Giroux-Boney was a paraprofessional in the Special Education Department since December 2000. Her sister, Jasmin Hislop, works in the Instructional and Informational Technology (IIT) Department.

We are sensitive to the fact that the loss of a member of our school community has an impact on our students and staff. Anticipating possible reactions to this event, we have provided some information which may be helpful. Parents and guardians can begin helping their children by giving them an opportunity to talk about it, listening carefully and calmly, accepting their feelings, and answering questions honestly according to your beliefs. A list of resources available to teens in crisis situations is available on the ETHS website: http://www.eths.k12.il.us/Page/799.

Students who desire support may contact the ETHS Social Work Office at (847) 424-7230. Support for students will also be available on a drop-in basis via Zoom on Monday, August 10. A link was emailed with login information.

We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the Giroux-Boney family. Condolence cards may be sent to ETHS, Attention: Special Education Office, 1600 Dodge Ave., Evanston, IL 60201.
