Glencoe Park District issued the following announcement on July 22.
The Glencoe Park District will release a digital Fall Program Guide of available classes in early August. This guide will be available online and shared on the Park District’s website, via email, and on social media, replacing the brochure that was traditionally mailed to all Glencoe households. Additional programs, classes, and clinics will be added to it later in August as school plans are finalized.
“This online catalogue of programs, events, and classes will allow Park District staff time to assess and respond to the needs of the community, especially once Glencoe School District 35 finalizes their fall operations plan,” said Lisa Sheppard, Executive Director of the Park District. “Printed programs typically take months to plan, edit, print, and mail. Offering online listings of classes allows us to pivot quickly and offer activities that are needed.”
The primary goal of the Park District’s fall schedule is to be of service to our community once area schools determine how they will operate. Staff is currently planning for different scenarios, including providing after-school activities and enrichments, as well as creating options for families with preschool and school-aged children.
All classes offered will include what will happen if the state moves to a different phase of the Governor's Restore Illinois plan. Examples include moving the program outside, to a larger room, hosting the class online, or if the class will be canceled and a refund issued.
Additionally, the Park District has a new policy about wearing masks while indoors, effective Monday, August 3. Masks will be required to be worn during in-person classes and for those enrolled in our Summer Care program. This rule will be in place for school aged children (kindergarten and up) and mirrors the plan in place for District 35 schools in the fall.
Current state regulations also stipulate that individuals wear a face-covering or a mask when in a public place where they cannot maintain a six-foot social distance. While the great majority of our programs are outside and set up to be socially distanced, masks should be worn when participants cannot be six feet apart and when they enter Park District facilities.
Exceptions to this rule include children in preschool classes and people with medical conditions or disabilities that prevent them from safely wearing a face covering. Please visit our Masks Policy FAQs page for more information.
“The latest scientific data about COVID-19 indicates there is a significant benefit to wearing masks,” Sheppard noted. “This new safety protocol is a practical way to protect the health of community and our staff.”
