City of Prospect Heights Fire/Police Commission met May 27.

CALL TO ORDER - Chairman Hoffman called the Teleconference Fire Police Meeting to order at 4:07 PM.

ROLL CALL - Deputy Clerk Schultheis called roll. There was a quorum.

COMMISSIONERS PRESENT - Chairman Hoffman, Commissioner Meyer.

ABSENT - Commissioner Fiorito

OTHER OFFICIALS PRESENT-Police Chief Zawlocki, Deputy Chief Porlier, Police Community Liaison Batten, Digital Communications Technician Colvin.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

A. February 19, 2020 Fire Police Commission Special Meeting Minutes

B. February 19, 2020 Fire Police Commission Special Meeting Executive Session Minutes but not for public release - Chairman Hoffman called for omnibus approval of February 19, 2020 Fire Police Commission Special Meeting Minutes and February 19, 2020 Fire Police Commission Special Meeting Executive Session Minutes but not for public release; seconded by Commissioner Meyer.

VOICE VOTE: All Ayes, No Nays

Motion carried 2 - 0, Commissioner Fiorito absent.

CLOSED SESSION - If needed- None

RETURN TO OPEN SESSION - Action on Executive Items, if required

OLD BUSINESS - None

NEW BUSINESS - Chief Zawlocki stated that the Police Department would be conducting interviews at City Hall, while following the COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines to include social distancing. Community Liaison Batten will be checking candidates in at the door and having them wait to be called into the interview. The interviews are June 6 and June 7, starting at 7 AM. There are 21 candidates. One of the recruits has already gotten a job in Wisconsin. Chief Zawlocki noted that there are a small number of candidates applying.

Chairman Hoffman asked if masks would be necessary. Chief Zawlocki replied that they were not required as long as the separation of six feet was maintained. There was also a general consensus that the demeanor and expressions of the candidates during the interview was important to be witnessed without the masks.

Chief Zawlocki added that there would be plexiglass protecting and separating candidates and interviewees.

DEPARTMENTAL UPDATE - Community Liaison Batten said that there will be a limited amount of Outreach outings. There is the possibility of a bicycle outing. She also noted that the Police Department and Fire District have been busy with shelter in place Birthday and Graduation celebration drive bys. There have been 23 to date, and there are 4 -5 more scheduled. These drive bys will go on until the end of June.

Chairman Hoffman said that the Courthouse will not be open through June, 2020. Chairman Hoffman believes that the courthouses might not be fully open until July.

CORRESPONDENCE/COMMUNICATIONS - It was noted by Chief Zawlocki that the Police Department has received many donations including masks, hand sanitizers - Taser, De.Kind, Ring Doorbell; as well as N-95 masks from Homeland Security. The Police Department has not had to purchase a lot of items.

NEXT REGULAR MEETING- Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at City Hall Council Chambers, 8 North Elmhurst Road, Prospect Heights, IL 60070 at 4 PM

ADJOURNMENT - At 4:24 PM, Commissioner Hoffman moved to Adjourn; seconded by Chairman Hoffman.

VOICE VOTE: All Ayes, No Nays

Motion carried 2 - 0, Commissioner Fiorito absent.
