ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 55: Moylan Looks toward Economic Development and Job Creation in Clean Energy

55

Illinois State House District 55 issued the following announcement on July 2

State Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, is praising the efforts of Illinois following the release of the Clean Jobs Midwest Report for 2019 which shows Illinois as a leader throughout the Midwest and details the impressive economic growth in clean energy across the state.

“Clean energy is an industry that every state should be investing in, not only for the environmental benefits, but because this expanding market has enormous potential to create jobs as well,” Moylan said. “This report shows us that continued investment in the clean energy industry will provide solid future economic returns which is why I am a supporter of the Clean Energy Jobs Act and look forward to working on additional legislation to create new jobs in emerging industries.”

The Clean Jobs Midwest Report is an annual survey conducted by E2 and Clean Energy Trust which details the size and scope of the clean energy industry, as well as the employment data in the 12 Midwestern states. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, all data showed rapid development in the Illinois clean energy industry growing at nearly five times the rate of statewide employment. This year the report shows that more than 2,100 jobs were added in 2019, making the total employment within the clean energy industry over 125,000 prior to the COVID-19 economic downturn.

“Throughout the COVID-19 crisis we have seen unprecedented unemployment, which is why it is more crucial than ever to focus on creating new and sustainable jobs,” Moylan said. “Clean energy jobs are expanding quickly, and Illinois needs to continue being the leader in this industry that we have been for the future of our state’s economy and environment.”
