A Barrington nonprofit has reopened to help the unemployed find corporate jobs during the COIVD-19 pandemic.
The Barrington Career Center offers services to improve search skills, give one-on-one coaching, and guide individuals as they re-enter the workforce, according to the Daily Herald. The nonprofit is led by 16 volunteers and helps individuals from over 50 Illinois communities.
Fees for anyone seeking help will be waived through Sept. 1. After then, the annual fee for unlimited help is $200.
"With the soaring unemployment levels, we felt that the curriculum we developed over the years and outstanding coaches were desperately needed by the Northwest communities," Executive Director Bill Schrack told the Daily Herald.
The nonprofit is focusing on helping people find corporate jobs, but will help anyone looking for any type of job, Schrack said. The center gives workshops and coaching sessions through Zoom. In-person services can also be provided, but social distancing must be enforced.
In 2011, Beth McAndrews found a job with the help of the nonprofit, which was then called CareerPlace. McAndrews now is Deer Park's village administrator.
"So glad to hear the career center is opening up again," she told the Daily Herald. "It was such a wonderful resource for our community and I would highly recommend it. Looking for a job can be so overwhelming and intimidating. I was so fortunate to have connected with a counselor that provided me with guidance, tools and the emotional support I needed at that time in my life."
The nonprofit is at 1000 Hart Road, Suite 300 in the Hanson Law Group building. For more information, visit its website or email info@thebarringoncareercenter.org.
