Glenview Community Consolidated School District 34 recently issued the following announcement.
You can't take care of others unless you, yourself, are healthy and well. In this series of virtual presentations and discussion groups, mental health professionals from Family Service Center (FSC) will provide concrete strategies you can use to manage your own concerns, fears and aneties as a parent. You'll revisit resources shared in other presentations throughout the year and relate them to today's realities.
Presentations: April 29 and May 6 at 7:00 pm on Zoom
Discussion Groups: April 30 and May 7
Grades 6-8: 10: 00-11: 00am
Grades 3-5: 12: 00-1: 00pm
Grades PK-2: 2: 30-3: 30pm
Presentations
In two 45-minute webinar presentations (on Wednesday, April 29 and Wednesday, May 6, both at 7:00 pm) FSC counselors will cover topics including:
- Considering your COVID-19 experience through a trauma-informed lens and how to combat this in daily living
- How to shift from worry to awareness
- Finding control in the chaos
Discussion Groups
The day after the presentations (Thursday, April 23 and Thursday, May 7) join a virtual discussion group for PK-2, 3-5 and 6-8 parents to talk in detail about the topics from the presentation, share your own experiences and ideas, and connect with other parents who may have similar experiences. The times for the discussion groups are:
- Parents of children in grades 6-8: 10: 00-11: 00am
- Parents of children in grades 3-5: 12: 00-1: 00pm
- Parents of children in grades PK-2: 2: 30-3: 30pm

- How to move from concern to awareness
- Finding control in chaos
There will be time for questions and answers.
A session in Spanish, led by Luis San Román, will take place on May 6 at 7:00 pm.
Then, the day after the presentations (Thursday, April 30 and Thursday, May 7), join a virtual PK-2, 3-5, and 6-8 parent discussion group to discuss in detail the topics of the Presentation, share your own experiences and ideas, and connect with other parents who may have similar experiences. The times for the discussion groups are:

Parents of children in grades 3-5: 12: 00-1: 00pm
Parents of children in grades PK-2: 2: 30-3: 30pm
A Spanish-speaking group, facilitated by Luis San Román, will take place on May 7 (time to decide).
This program will be in English, later it will be shared with Spanish subtitles. In addition, you will be sent an invitation to participate in a discussion group in Spanish.
