Q2 2019 Recap: Parolees in Cook County convicted of sex crimes

There were 31 offenders convicted of sex crimes released on parole in Cook County during the second quarter of 2019, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the North Cook News.

The data shows that 29 men and two women were among the parolees. The median age of the parolees sentenced for sex crimes was 43. The youngest parolee was a 19-year-old man sentenced in 2016, and the oldest was a 66-year-old man sentenced in 1995.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was John Freligh. He was convicted in 1995 when he was 42 years old. He is now 66.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.

The following table shows how many offenders convicted of sex crimes were paroled during the second quarter of 2019 in each Illinois county.
