ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 55: Moylan Responds to State of the State, Renews Commitment to Middle Class

55

Illinois State House District 55 issued the following announcement on Jan. 29

State Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, issued the following statement Wednesday after Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s State of the State address:

“Today was an opportunity to reflect on some of the challenges families in our state face, and the work that will be needed in the coming months to address them.

“It is clear that we need to restore confidence in government by proactively reviewing and updating rules that regulate the behavior of lobbyists and elected officials. This is an issue which everyone must get behind because good governance is not a political issue, it is an ethical one. We have to come together on a bipartisan basis, find any loopholes that could be exploited, and close them. Our residents deserve to have a government working for the people of Illinois and not themselves.

“The governor also aims to build a stronger middle class, and I will join him and my fellow legislators in those efforts. Some of the proposed initiatives to go about accomplishing this goal, such as investing in infrastructure and expanding property tax relief for middle class families, are excellent starts. I look forward to working on them while creating other concrete solutions to support the middle class, the backbone of our economy.”

“Over the past year we have taken positive steps forward, but more work remains. We must again pass a bipartisan, balanced budget that invests in education and critical services like domestic violence shelters and breast cancer screenings. We saw last year that we can come together as Republicans and Democrats to do this, and I am hopeful this commitment can again be renewed so that we may have an effective legislative session that gets things done for the people we serve.”
