Illinois State House District 55 issued the following announcement on Dec. 30
Fighting to guarantee everyone has an equal opportunity to earn a fair wage, state Rep. Marty Moylan, D- Des Plaines, is reminding residents that Illinois’ landmark minimum wage increase will be enacted on Jan. 1, 2020.
“I am extremely proud that we were able to pass this monumental legislation” Moylan said. “We have shown that Illinois will stand behind its workers and serve as an example for the rest of the Midwest and United States to strive toward.”
The Moylan-supported Senate Bill 1 was passed by both houses and signed into law back in February 2019. The legislation will increase the minimum wage in Illinois from $8.25 per hour to $9.25 per hour on Jan. 1 and then to $10 per hour on Jul. 1. The law will continue raising the minimum wage over the coming years, raising it $1 per hour on Jan. 1 of every year starting in 2021 until it reaches $15 per hour in 2025. This marks the first statewide minimum wage increase since the summer of 2010.
“This will be a great help to thousands of people across the state living on these wages and supporting families” Moylan said. “I will always stand up for the workers of Illinois to ensure they are treated and compensated fairly.”
