City of Evanston issued the following announcement on Nov. 21.
Evanston residents and visitors are encouraged to kick off the holiday shopping season by supporting the City's small, local shops and business districts on National Small Business Saturday, November 30.
Observed annually on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Small Business Saturday encourages holiday shoppers to support the small, independent businesses that help make their communities special.
This year, Downtown Evanston is kicking off a “Keep Evanston Awesome” campaign on Small Business Saturday to recognize the important role that local businesses play in the Evanston community. Shoppers can pick up a "Keep Evanston Awesome" Passport at participating downtown Evanston businesses. Those who spend at least $100 will get a tote bag filled with goodies, including note cards created by local artist, Amanda Evanston. Shoppers can also enter to win a raffle prize, which includes a two-night stay at the Hyatt House Evanston. The tote bags will be available for pickup between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 30 at the Hyatt House Evanston, 1515 Chicago Ave.
Additionally, Main-Dempster Mile shoppers who spend $100 on the Mile on Small Business Saturday can receive a gift bag filled with holiday swag. Receipts can be redeemed for gift bags at Amanda Evanston Art, 1310-A Chicago Ave., between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. (while supplies last).
Brunch and lunch specials will be available at restaurants throughout the city, helping shoppers fuel a fun day of shopping.
From Saturday, November 30 through Saturday, January 4, Evanston shoppers can have their parking validated at participating Evanston businesses with a qualifying purchase. Validation can be used for free two-hour parking at City meters and surface lots every day. Shoppers parking at City meters and lots must use the Park Evanston mobile app in order to redeem validation.
