Illinois State House District 54 issued the following announcement on Nov. 1
Today State Representative Luis Arroyo (D-Chicago) resigned from office following his arrest on federal bribery charges.
State Representative Tom Morrison (R-Palatine) released the following statement:
“Representative Arroyo’s arrest on bribery charges renews my support for overdue ethical reform efforts. By tightening our laws to eliminate the loopholes left for the self-serving, we will have a better government and one the people deserve.”
Representative Morrison is the chief co-sponsor of HB361, which increases fines for legislators who engage in restricted activities and for violating legislator rules of conduct. Morrison also is supporting HB3940, which bans lawmakers from lobbying local governments and HJR87, which would create a State Ethics Task Force to address corruption in Illinois government.
