City of Prospect Heights Fire/Police Commission met Aug. 28.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

CALL TO ORDER - At 4:03 PM, Chairman Hoffman called the Fire/Police Commission Regular Meeting to order at City Hall, 8 North Elmhurst Road, Prospect Heights, IL 60070.

ROLL CALL - Deputy Clerk Schultheis called roll. A quorum was present. 

COMMISSIONER’S PRESENT - Chairman Hoffman, Commissioners – Fiorito and Meyer 

OTHER OFFICIAL’S PRESENT – Police Community Liaison Batten, Police Chief Zawlocki, and Deputy Clerk Schultheis

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

A. July 31, 2019 Regular Meeting Minutes

B. July 31, 2019 Regular Meeting Executive Session Minutes – Commissioner Meyer moved for omnibus approval of July 31, 2019 Regular Meeting Minutes and July 31, 2019 Regular Meeting Executive Session Minutes; seconded by Commissioner Fiorito. There was unanimous approval.

VOICE VOTE: All ayes, no nays.

Motion carried 3 - 0

CLOSED SESSION – If needed – None requested

RETURN TO OPEN SESSION - Action on Executive Items, if required

OLD BUSINESS – Police Chief Zawlocki noted that Officer Cierniak is in the field on his own, as is Officer Blanco.

Bradley Sigsworth will be sworn in as a new officer on September 9th at the City Council Meeting. On Sunday, September 15, he will be sent to the Police Academy for 14 weeks.

Corporal Mark Pufundt will be promoted to Sergeant at the September 9th City Council Meeting.

NEW BUSINESS

DEPARTMENTAL UPDATE

A. Police Department Personnel List - Police Community Liaison Batten put together a list of the new hires and the start dates of all the officers. It was noted that there have been 11 new hires in the last three years.

Police Community Liaison Batten noted that the Outreach program was very successful this year. There were 77 children at the Brookfield Zoo and 14 chaperones. There were 85 children at Navy Pier. All in all, 124 children signed up for the program this year.

National Night Out – There were 440 people in attendance. There was positive feedback. It is a national event in which the Police and Fire Departments interact with the Community. It is held on the first Tuesday in August.

The Police are now gearing up for Halloween and Thanksgiving Events.

CORRESPONDENCE/COMMUNICATIONS -

Commissioner Meyer expressed his thanks to the Police Chief for getting the signage for the crossing at Schoenbeck Road and the flashing lights on Stonegate. He also wanted to thank the Building Department and Public Works.

ADJOURNMENT - At 4:21 PM, Commissioner Meyer moved to Adjourn; seconded by Commissioner Fiorito. There was unanimous approval.
