City of Prospect Heights issued the following announcement on Oct. 10.
The City of Prospect Heights is gathering feedback from the community regarding recently adopted recreational cannabis legislation in Illinois. Effective January 1, 2020, the Illinois Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act legalizes private consumption and possession of cannabis for Illinois residents over 21 years of age. The Act also provides for the state licensure and regulation of a variety of adult-use cannabis business establishments. The City is entitled to collect up to 3% tax on the sale of cannabis in Prospect Heights in addition to other city, state, and county sales taxes.
The City of Prospect Heights has the authority to prohibit or significantly limit the location of cannabis establishments within the City. The results of this survey will assist the City Council in determining Prospect Heights’ regulations on the sale of cannabis in the City.
This survey will close on October 31, 2019.
