COMMUNITY CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL DISTRICT 59: Back to School Events Usher in New Year

Community Consolidated School District 59 issued the following announcement on Aug. 8.

One of the hallmarks of the end of summer at CCSD59 is the chance for students, families, and staff to come together for some fun and a chance to learn.

At the annual meet-and-greet at the Oasis Mobile Home Park on Saturday, August 3, these groups came together for some facetime with local organizations and to see a handful of donations put to good use.

Back-to-school partners included District 214, the Salvation Army, Kenneth Young Center, the Clearbrook Organization, Mount Prospect Library, YMCA, and many others. As in former years, the annual celebration featured a wealth of donations from local businesses and food provided by the Salvation Army.

CCSD59 staff and board members, community partners, and local vendors provided this year’s raffle with generous prizes, including two Chromebooks and $50 gift cards. Hundreds of backpacks were assembled by CCSD59 volunteers in the weeks leading up to the event and provided to students in attendance.

Additionally, volunteers from Salt Creek Elementary and the CCSD59 community outreach specialists went onsite to Willoway Terrace on Wednesday, August 7, to meet and welcome families who did not have the opportunity to attend the event at the Oasis. Books, backpacks, and school supplies that had been donated to the school were also handed out to families at the event.

Dr. Nicole Robinson, principal at Salt Creek, said these types of events continue to build and strengthen important relationships right from the beginning.

“When the entire community comes together to support our students and families, we can accomplish so much!”

These events are just one way backpacks and other supplies are distributed by the district. These items are routinely stocked at school buildings throughout the year thanks to donation drives put on by Elk Grove Township.
